Barn Field is a small meadow bounded by Ravensholme Court and the Mill Brook. Having been intensively grazed by horses over the past few years, this small area of unimproved grassland is now being restored and managed as a wildflower meadow. Lying adjacent to the Mill Brook, Barn Field is an integral part of the wildlife corridor and provides a safe habitat enabling larger mammals, such as foxes and badgers, access to and from the heart of the village. Surrounding trees provide suitable nesting sites for songbirds and, during the summer months, hoverflies, bees and other insects can be identified. Peacock, small skipper and tortoiseshell butterflies are common here as are several species of bat which roost in the area.
